Signs and symptoms of skin cancer other than melanoma
Non-melanoma skin cancer usually takes birth in the form of an area of abnormal skin or skin change anywhere on the body. The aspect of skin cancer other than melanoma often depends on the type of cancer. Other medical conditions may also look like skin cancer other than melanoma. The common signs and symptoms of basal carcinoma (CBC) and squamous carcinoma (CSC) are the most common types of non-melanoma skin cancer.
Basal carcinoma usually takes birth on skin surfaces exposed to the sun, especially at the head, face and neck. It can also be manifested on the skin of the central part of the body (trunk). The CBC may appear in the following forms:
Lesion that does not heal or reappears after healing
Pale white or yellow flat areas that look like scars
Raised red plates and scaly
Small smooth and shiny masses of pearly white, pink or red color
Pink mass whose edges are raised and the center is recessed
Mass with small blood vessels on the surface
Bleeding lesion
Itchy mass or region
Squamous carcinoma usually takes birth on skin surfaces exposed to the sun, but it can also be observed on the skin surrounding the genitals and anus. Scars, lesions, ulcers and burns can occur on the skin. The CSC may appear in the following forms:
Lesion that does not heal or reappears after healing
Rough or scalyed red plates with an irregular border
Raised masses whose centre is recessed
Mass that looks like a wart
Lesion that is encroutée or bleeding easily
Itchy mass or region, which is irritated or sore
