Symptoms of small bowel cancer
Small bowel cancer is very rare. That's why, when there are symptoms, doctors first often consider other causes to explain them before looking for cancer in the small intestine. It is possible that small bowel cancer does not cause any signs or symptoms in the early stages of the disease. In general, symptoms occur if the tumor invades the surrounding tissues and organs or if it obstructs (blocks) the small intestine. Other medical conditions can cause the same symptoms as small bowel cancer.
If you experience the following symptoms, consult your doctor:
Pain in the abdomen (in some cases, the pain suddenly appears and it is intense)
Nausea
Vomiting
Weight loss
Constipation
Diarrhea
Intestinal bleeding
Blood in stool or saddles black and tarry
Fatigue and weakness that can be caused by anemia
In some cases, small intestine tumours can cause serious problems. These emergencies due to cancer must be treated immediately:
Obstruction (blockage) of the intestine (intestinal occlusion)
Hole in the intestine (intestinal perforation)
